Frequent or aggressive exfoliation may irritate the skin and make post-acne pigmentation more noticeable. Exfoliating acids, scrubs, brushes, or other active products should be used only when suitable for the skin and recommended by a physician.
Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen may help prevent red or brown post-acne marks from becoming darker. It does not directly remove true acne scars.
Active acne should also be medically managed to reduce the risk of developing additional scars.
